SDPeds-Wellness

Preventive care and family education are cornerstones to our physicians’ philosophy. For that reason, we recommend that families take advantage of each and every recommended well visit to ensure that their children are growing and developing in a healthy manner. Not only do these visits ensure that your child remains as healthy as possible through proper preventive measures, but these routine appointments also help establish healthy habits in your child that will last a lifetime.

Well visits provide a wonderful opportunity for families to manage their child’s health and learn more about specific developmental milestones or common health concerns to look out for at certain ages. These visits allow our health care providers to monitor your child’s growth and development, check in with the family, and addressing any questions or concerns you may have. These visits are also beneficial in building rapport with your doctor and preventing health problems before they occur.

During your well visit, the physician will complete a thorough physical examination and confirm that your child is meeting all of the appropriate developmental milestones he or she should by that age. Your nurse or physician will also discuss all upcoming developmental expectations, offering useful and timely advice at each stage of your child’s life so you know what to expect. These visits also give you the opportunity to go over your child’s medical history, discuss any recent health issues that may have arisen since your child’s last visit, and review your child’s immunization record to make sure he or she is on the right track toward a healthy future.

Children under the age of two require more frequent visits to the doctor than older children and adults. San Diego Pediatrics recommends well visits at the following ages:

  • Newborn
  • 2 months
  • 4 months
  • 6 months
  • 9 months
  • 12 months
  • 15 months
  • 18 months
  • 2 years
  • And every year thereafter through 18 years of age

Well visits are important appointments that should not be neglected. If your child is due for a well visit soon or you are interested in learning more about what San Diego Pediatrics has to offer as your child’s care provider, contact our office today to schedule an appointment with us.
