San Diego Pediatrics is now offering sterile ear piercing!

If you are considering getting your child’s ears pierced, San Diego Pediatrics offers the safest, most sterile ear piercing solution for your child. We provide ear piercings for children who are 4 months old and above. Children receiving ear piercings must be up to date with their Dtap and Hepatitis B vaccines.

If you are considering getting your child’s ears pierced, San Diego Pediatrics offers the safest, most sterile ear piercing solution for your child. We take every precaution to avoid infection by using pre-packaged disposable piercing equipment and following stringent safety protocols, such as washing our hands with soap and using clean gloves.

Ear piercing at San Diego Pediatrics is done with a piercing “gun” by our qualified health care professionals, and we use medical grade titanium earrings that are nickel free and hypoallergenic. These medical grade materials ensure maximum comfort and safety for children who may have nickel sensitivity.

At home care instructions will be provided to you at the time of the appointment. Proper after care is important in order to avoid infection and help the pierced hole keep its shape. Always wash your hands with soap before touching the pierced hole or earring to avoid infection, and clean the earlobe with warm water twice a day. To make sure the hole keeps its shape, gently rotate the earrings and slide them back and forth in the hole with clean hands. Keep the earrings in place for at least six weeks to keep the hole from closing in.

Signs of infection include redness, swelling, drainage or pain, itching and tenderness that continues several days or weeks after the piercing. If your child is experiencing any of these symptoms around the site of the piercing, please contact our office. Some children are allergic to certain metals, such as nickel or cobalt, which are common in earrings. We recommend avoiding earrings that contain these metals to avoid irritation.

Unfortunately, ear piercing is not billable to health insurance. The fee for piercing is $60 and includes the medical grade titanium earrings for both ears.
